Bush Fire Days

These images were taken down the road at home.

My husband had to hold me steady as I took them.

The air was filled with dirt and smoke.

“Never lose hope. Storms make people stronger and never last forever.”

Roy T. Bennett, The Light In The Heart.

“There is a saying in Tibetan, “Tragedy should be utilized as a source of strength.”

“No matter what sort of difficulties, how painful experience is, if we lose our hope,

that’s our real disaster.”

Dalai Lama XIV

“Though nothing can bring back the hour of splendor in the grass,

Of glory in the flower;

We will grieve not, rather find strength in what remains behind;

In the primal sympathy

Which having been must ever be…”

William Wordsworth.

“There is something very apocalyptic to these images,

Or perhaps it was the emotions I was feeling as I took them,

As dirt and smoke filled the air and an ominous feeling of disaster overcame me.”

K.

  1. Beautiful photos of an impending disaster. It’s been a horror month for fires. I hope you’re safe.

    • Thank You Lignum, we are new to this area and i pretty much think it’s reasonably fire safe. Because we are so close to the Blue Mountains and other fire prone areas we seem to cop all the smoke here.

  2. It does feel a bit apocalyptic. I hate to say that we’ve grown used to seeing bush fires in California, with so many millions living so close to the disastrous burns. But it never stops being scary. Some are relocating and I can’t say that I blame them. I hope you are safe and your air clears soon.

    • Thanks Eliza we are in a safe zone, although we do have pockets of bush land. I have never seen so many bushfires in NSW all at once, some burning totally out of control, and the devastation is massive. I have heard of your bushfires too and it’s hard to comprehend the devastation when it’s another country to your own. I guess people really don’t talk about it on their websites.

  3. Sorry, here is the right place:
    I wish you well, Karen. On TV I saw all those horrible pictures about the fires. It is a great pain for man and animal. I hope we can all stop climate change!
